Parts are typically cleaned of grease and oil on a bench, workstation, or in the field, which often requires manual cleaning methods. Manual cleaning methods are more laborious and less repeatable, so results may vary by operator. Here are some tools we can use for rational cleaning.
Square gun trigger sprayer: Trigger spray bottles are typically used with water-based cleaners and isopropyl alcohol (IPA), but not with aggressive solvent cleaners.
Aerosol: The aerosol package is a sealed system that ensures fresh solvent is used every time. Spray pressure and pattern can increase agitation, such as a scrubbing action. Often includes a straw attachment for spraying into confined areas.
Immersion: Parts can be immersed in a tray or bucket of solvent cleaner and then scrubbed off stubborn dirt with a rag, cotton swab, and brush. Heating the solvent can improve cleaning performance, but to be on the safe side, only use non-flammable degreasers.
Pre-soaked wipes and swabs: For added convenience, use wipes pre-moistened with a mild solvent such as isopropyl alcohol.
